The surface of the body acts as a barrier between our internal and external selves exposing the vulnerabilities between mind and body. There is a strong desire to control our appearance and physical signs of well-being. I am interested in the length one will go, to appear well and put together. The presence of the body is suggested in my work, through various processes that reflect healing and destructive patterns. Surfaces are abraded, mended, and often covered. These actions serve to highlight the subtle and startling effects of our physical movements, mental states, and overall health.
