Merrill Shatzman’s (b.1956) relief prints meld abstract, readable letterforms and symbols extracted from Western, Middle Eastern, Far Eastern, Mesoamerican and ancient writing systems, calligraphy, charts and maps. By continually reconstructing and altering her prints she reinterprets her complex forms into novel permutations that are visually, technically, and conceptually connected and related. Shatzman extensively shows her prints including a one-woman exhibit at the The Herbert Johnson Museum, Cornell University in 2009; her woodcuts have recently been included in 3rd Global Print 2017, Hida Takayama Contemporary Continuar a ler...ity in 2009; her woodcuts have recently been included in 3rd Global Print 2017, Hida Takayama Contemporary Woodblock-Print Triennial 2017 , 6th Guanlan International Print Biennial China 2017 , 8th International Printmaking Biennial of Douro 2016, International Print Triennial Krakow 2015, and 9th Biennale Internationale D’Estampe Contemporaine de Trois-Rivieres, (2015).
