Jimmy Dean Horn (Chickasaw b.1988) is a Native American Artist living in Frogtown Los Angeles California (Tongva Land). His nontraditional printmaking work has won multiple awards. Jimmy’s work has been included in numerous group exhibitions as well as solo showings. His has most recently been on display in the Lloyd Kiva Gallery at the Museum of Contemporary Native Arts in Santa Fe New Mexico. Jimmy’s work has been shown in Los Angeles CA, Santa Fe NM, Austin TX, OKC OK, and NYC NY. Bits of his process are intentionally left behind, plate edges, tape marks, or excess ink all showing the hand of the maker in the works. Jimmy pulls imagery and symbolism from various places, books, old photos, Chickasaw Nation reference material, and family stories. Creating these works is all part of a discovery process of the culture Jimmy was denied, growing up in a military family broken by divorce. All of his prints are hand pressed with a roller or baren. Jimmy’s printmaking method is focused on nontraditional intaglio prints, layered with block prints, cyanotypes, and hand embellishments. Striving to keep the printmaking process as eco-friendly as possible, using recycled materials for my printing plates, and US made soy or water-based inks, printed on US made papers.
